Municipal Court Fine Schedule
OPTION #1 - PLEAD NO CONTEST OR
GUILTY AND PAY THE FINE
-
IN PERSON - You may appear
at the Como City Hall at 104 Mill Street between 8:00 am - 5:00
pm, Monday - Friday. A 10-day fine payment extensions may
be granted at the time of your court appearance or on Fridays
from 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. If you receive a 10-day extension
to pay, you WILL NOT be eligible to take the Drivers
Safety Course.
You will plea and pay by cash, cashiers check, money order or
Visa/Mastercard/Discover Credit/Debit cards for
the full payment to:
City of Como

BY MAIL - Check the appropriate
plea on your courtesy letter and mail along with a cashiers
check or money order, NO CASH, for full payment to:
City of Como , P.O. Box 208, Como, TX 75431
OPTION # 2 - PLEAD NOT GUILTY AND
REQUEST A TRIAL
If you wish to plead not guilty, you or your attorney must appear
in person at the court on or before the response date on your
citation. Court hearings CANNOT be scheduled by telephone. Once a
trial date is set, the Deferred Disposition and Driving Safety
Course options are no longer available.
OPTION # 3 - REQUEST THE DRIVING
SAFETY COURSE (DSC) OR MOTORCYCLE OPERATOR TRAINING COURSE IN
PERSON OR BY MAIL
You must request this by the response date on the front of your
citation. You may be able to require that this charge be dismissed
by taking a driving safety course or motorcycle operator training
course if you were operating a motorcycle at the time you received
this citation. To protect this right, you must provide written
notice to the municipal court on or before your response date, if
you desire to do so. If you received a 10-day extension to pay,
you WILL NOT be eligible to take the Drivers Safety Course.
OPTION # 4 - REQUEST DEFERRED
DISPOSITION (PROBATION) BY MAIL, OR IN PERSON
If you are under the age of 25 you must make this request in
person, and you will be required to attend a Drivers Safety
Course. If you are 25 or older, you will not be required to
attend a DSC course. All requests for Deferred Disposition must
be requested by the response date on the front of your citation.

Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
If you received a citation for
Failure to Maintain Financial Responsibility (No Insurance)
and were insured on the date and time of your citation was
issued, you may present proof of financial responsibility to
have your citation dismissed.
Insurance Proof must contain the
following information when submitted:
a. Driver's Drivers License or a copy if mailed.
b. The name of the insurer
c. The insurance policy number
d. The policy period
e. The name and address of each
insured
f. The policy limits or a
statement that the coverage of the policy complies with the
minimum amounts of motor vehicle liability insurance required
by Sec. 601.072 of the Transportation Code
g. The make and model of each
covered vehicle
h. If you were operating a car
other than your own you must provide proof with the owner or a
copy of the owner's driver's license if mailed.
Insurance proof may be presented in
person at the Court or by mail.
Expired Registration,
Expired Inspection, and Expired DL
If you were cited for Expired
Registration, Expired Inspection, or Expired Driver's License
you may appear at the Municipal Court on or before the court
date assigned to you on your citation with proof that the
violation was remedied within 10 working days from the date of
the violation and upon payment of a $10 (per offense)
Administrative Fee, your proof will be submitted to the Judge
for dismissal. The $10 (per offense) Administrative Fee and
proof may also be mailed along with a copy of your ticket to
present to the Judge for dismissal. Some violations have a 60
day maximum period. |

CONSEQUENCES OF IGNORING A CITATION
Failure to complete one of the four options (shown above) on or
before the response date on the front of the citation will result
in:

A warrant
being issued for your arrest at which time the fine amount will
be the maximum allowed by law PLUS court cost and fees.

A request to
the Texas Department of Public Safety for the denial of driver
license renewal. If a warrant for your arrest is issued, you
will be subject to arrest at your home, place of business or
wherever you may be found. Inability to pay this fine is not
excuse for failure to answer. Fine payment extensions may be
granted in person at the time of appearance.
SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR JUVENILES
Juveniles (age 10-16) MUST APPEAR IN PERSON WITH A PARENT
OR LEGAL GUARDIAN for a court hearing. A court appearance is
also required for Driving Safety Course or Deferred Disposition. |
